Maryland Official Wants 2 Key Facilities Renovated
By Ballah M. Kollie, Reporting from Maryland County
HARPER, March 31 (LINA) - The Commissioner of Puduken Township in Maryland County is appealing to the Liberian Government to renovate the General Market and Chiefs Compound in Harper City to meet acceptable standards.
Nyen Proud made the appeal through Bong County Senator Jewel Taylor and Maryland County Senator Dan Morias during a welcome event organized by the Rural Women of Maryland County in honor of the two senators Wednesday.
According to Proud, there is a dire need to renovate these two facilities which, he noted, were damaged and abandoned during the civil crisis.
“The rainy season is near; unless the market where our wives and children sell their palm nuts and other local commodities is fully rehabilitated, and unless the chiefs compound is rehabilitated, rain will continue to beat them again,” he pointed out.
Proud then pledged the commitment of the people of Maryland County to the realization of Senator Taylor’s dream for women empowerment and their participation in politics and national decision-making.
Responding, Senator Taylor promised to collaborate with Senator Morias to ensure that the two facilities are rehabilitated.
Also in remarks, Morias said serious projects are ongoing, including the construction of the US$25,000 cassava processing factory which, when completed,
will ease the problem farmers face in having their produce processed into a finished goods.
