By Philip T. Singbah, LINA Bong County Correspondent
GBARNGA, March 17 (LINA) - Africare-Liberia has started the construction of US$130,000 referral health center in Palala, Kpaii District in Bong County.
It can be recalled the Japanese Government under its Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security program in November last year signed an agreement with Africare to construct the health center.
Speaking at the ground breaking ceremony in Palala recently, Africare Liberia Country Director Earnest Gaie said the project will contribute to the building of a resilient health system in Bong County by enabling the government to adequately respond to health needs of its citizens.
Gaie indicated that the project will also provide the necessary equipment to ensure the implementation of essential health services in line with the National Health and Social Welfare Policy of Liberia.
He noted that the health center will go a long way in improving the health system in Panta-Kpaii District and adjacent communities and praised the citizens for providing land for the construction of the facility.
He indicated that Africare is committed to improving the health sector of Bong County as it is currently giving support to 29 health facilities across the county, including the outpatient departments at Phebe and C.B. Dunbar hospitals.
In remarks, Bong County health officer Dr. Gabriel Logan lauded the Japanese government for the grant and hoped that implementation of the project will further deepen the cordial relations between Japan and Liberia.
Dr. Logan pledged the county health team’s support to the project as it aims to help improve the health delivery system in the district.
