Rep. Gray Wants LWSC MD Appear Before Plenary
By H. Vasco Wiagbe

MONROVIA, March 7 (LINA) - Montserrado County Representative Acarous Gray has written the Plenary of the House of Representatives craving its indulgence to invite the Managing Director of the Liberia Water and Sewer Corporation (LWSC), Charles Allen to appear before the body.

Representative Gray wants the LWSC to give reasons for the abrupt shortage of water in Monrovia and its environs, according to the Liberia News Agency (LINA).

In the letter addressed to House Speaker J. Alexander Tyler, dated March 5, 2014 and read in session Thursday, Gray said his investigation has revealed that there has been shortage of water in Monrovia and its surroundings over a protracted period.

He noted that the National Legislature in the FY2013/2014 National Budget approved US$18.9 million for the LWSC, with the understanding that the entity has a statutory mandate to provide the Liberian population with safe drinking water to reduce water-borne diseases in the country.

Gray pointed out that the shortage of safe drinking in Monrovia and its environs has the propensity to endanger the lives of the Liberian people, requiring necessary steps to avoid such situation.

Following the reading of the communication, Representative Edward Forh of Montserrado County made a motion that it be received and turned over to the House's Committee on Utility for scrutiny and report to Plenary in one week.

The motion was unanimously agreed upon by members of the House. .
