Rep. Kparksr Opts Pushes Domestic Flights Resumption
By Wilfred Gortor, LINA

MONROVIA, February 28 (LINA) – Lofa County District#1 Representative Eugene Fallah Kparkar has stressed the need to resume domestic flights as well as the reintroduction of the “Air Liberia” brand.

Representative Kparkar wants government to seek possible partnership with aircraft companies to restart domestic flights so that revenue accrued from flight activities can be shared on a percentage basis or as may be determined through negotiation.

The Lofa lawmaker said he is of the conviction that there will be a surge in government revenue if Liberia’s aviation sector is revamped by investing in three to four aircraft.

In a communication addressed to House Speaker Alex Tyler recently, Kparkar noted that to further actualize this proposal, Liberia’s aviation airstrips in Zwedru, Foya, Harper and Fishtown, among others, need to be reconstructed to facilitate the
recommencement of domestic air services.

He recounted that about four years ago the Liberia Domestic Service embarked on a survey for the pavement of the runways of all available airstrips in the country in a bid to transform them to domestic airports, adding “A million dollar proposal was suggested for each of the airstrips.”

Kparkar then recommended that the House Plenary invites the Liberia Aviation Authority, Liberia Revenue Authority, Ministry of Public Works and Liberia Domestic Airport Authority to a hearing aimed at soliciting frank views on the implementation of the proposal to resume domestic flights.

The communication, which was discussed by the House Plenary, was forwarded to the committees on Commerce and Industry, Ways, Means and Finance and Development Planning, Public Works and Investment and Concession for review.

The committees are expected to brief Plenary within two weeks, following consultative meetings.
