Lofa Authorities, Partners Begin Land Dispute Mediation
By Gabriel T. Bundor, LINA Lofa County Correspondent

VOINJAMA, February 24 (LINA) - Authorities of Lofa County and Tetra Tech, an institution responsible for mitigating land disputes in Liberia, have begun mediation talks on a disputed parcel of land between two towns in Kolahun District, Lofa County.

The conflict, according to Lofa County Superintendent George Dunor, started some five months ago between citizens of Yandiamah and Gbalahun in Kolahun District.

Supt. Dunor said the conflict began when the people of Gbalahun accused citizens of Yandiamah of allegedly planting palm trees on a parcel of land belonging to them without their consent.

Speaking at the start of the mediation process in Popalahun Town on Monday, the Lofa County official called on the parties to be polite during the mediation process which is expected to last for at least two days.

He told the parties that there are lots of opportunities that the county stands to gain once there is peace and harmony amongst its citizens.

Meanwhile, Superintendent Dunor has informed citizens of the county that the World Bank is to shortly provide funding for a hydro project that will benefit the people of Kolahun District, but stressed the need for peace, if the project is to be realized.

He appealed to the two towns to cooperate with the mediation team for the sake of peace.
