Rep. Younquoi Opts for Amendment of Lower House’s Rules
By Wilfred Gortor, LINA

MONROVIA, February 18 (LINA) – Nimba County District #8 Representative Larry Younquoi is calling for an amendment of Article 57.4 of the rules of the House of Representatives which makes specific reference to the Committee on Ways, Means and Finance.

Younquoi wants the Committee to be renamed the Committee on Ways, Means, Finance and Development Planning to correspond with the existing reality occasioned by the renaming of the Ministry of Finance to the Ministry of Finance and Development Planning.

In a communication read in plenary on Thursday, the Nimba County lawmaker indicated that his proposed amendment is in consonance with Article 63.4 of the House’s Rules.

Younquoi also stressed that Section 50.2 of the House’s rules recognizes the existence of sub-committees, but observed that said provision is not being upheld by the House of Representatives.

He said this has allowed some committees that are multi-tasking to operate without being disaggregated into appropriate sub-committees.

Younquoi noted that the proposed Committee on Ways, Means, Finance and Development Planning be sub-divided to include a Sub-Committee on Ways, Means and Finance, Sub-Committee on Development Planning and a Sub-Committee on Budget.

He entreated his colleagues to extend the amendment to all multi-faceted committees such as Lands, Mines and Natural Resources, Post and Telecommunication; and Gender, Children and Social Protection, among others.
