Pres. Sirleaf Returns Home Happy With Nigeria’s Role In Liberia
MONROVIA, February 17 (LINA) - President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf has returned home following a one-day working visit to the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
She said the visit was a “solidarity visit in appreciation of the significant role Nigeria played and continues to play in Liberia,” particularly in bringing and consolidating peace and security.
According to an Executive Mansion release, the Liberian leader made the statement when she addressed journalists at the Roberts International Airport (RIA) upon arrival from Abuja, Nigeria on Tuesday, February 16.
President Sirleaf said during the one-day working visit, she and President Mohammadu Buhari held discussion centered on more rigorous efforts in the areas of trade, investment, security and international affairs and the United Nations Mission in Liberia’s drawdown plan, which is expected to take effect beginning June this year.
President Sirleaf said her visit was also to show Liberia’s appreciation to the government and people of Nigeria for their support and commitment to Liberia’s peace and stability.
She explained that the discussion between them also highlighted security-related issues of common interest.
The Liberian leader disclosed that stronger bilateral relations and increase in trade and investment between the two countries was also discussed, which is meant to ensure entrepreneurs can improve in the area of business to enable them come on par with others in the sub-region.
