County Attorney Unhappy With Magistrates Over Writs
By D.Ignatius Roberts, LINA Grand Cape Mount County Correspondent

ROBERTSPORT, February 15 (LINA) - Grand Cape Mount County Attorney Cllr. Harris Wowoah has frowned on magistrates who issue writs without the involvement of City Solicitors in the county.

Wowoah attributed the overcrowding of the Robertsport prison to this attitude.

He said issuing writs without the input of City Solicitors is “a complete blunder” on the part of magistrates because, he noted, the City Solicitors are the prosecuting arm of the Ministry of Justice.

Cllr. Wowoah made the statement in Robertsport recently during the official opening of the 5th Judicial Circuit Court for the February Term of Court.

To reduce overcrowding at the Robertsport Prison, Cllr. Wowoah recommended that those who have been convicted by courts in the county should be transferred to the Zwedru Palace of Correction.

He also said a factor responsible for the continued overcrowding of the prison is the failure of judges to speedily hear cases.
