Pres. Sirleaf Expresses Confidence In Security Forces
MONROVIA, February 11 (LINA) – The Liberian leader has expressed confidence in the ability of Liberian troops and security forces to effectively execute their duties in a post-UNMIL environment.
President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf said her optimism is a result of the forces’ demonstration of their preparedness.
She made the statement in her message at celebrations marking the 59th anniversary of the Armed Forces of Liberia (AFL) held Thursday at the Barclay Training Center in Monrovia.
President Sirleaf observed that there are unique capacities that the Armed Forces of Liberia can bring in supporting civil authority, especially in the country’s development effort.
According to the Liberian leader, the AFL has demonstrated over the years and the recent acquisition of extra equipment from partners that they have a vital role to play in the reconstruction of Liberia.
Meanwhile, President Sirleaf has emphasized the need for government to continuously work with the AFL in strengthening the border control mechanism.
She lauded the United Nations Mission in Liberia for the support, training and assistance it provided Liberia’s security sector.
“Your role has been crucial in getting us to where we are today and call on the Mission to convey the gratitude of the Liberian Government and people to all troop contributing countries to the peace of Liberia,” President Sirleaf noted.
She also praised the Michigan National Guard and the US Government, the People’s Republic of China and all who continue to support the peace and development initiatives of Liberia.
