MONROVIA, February 10 (LINA) – President Ellen Johnson has termed as “true partnership” the level of relations subsisting between China and Liberia.
She was speaking at the official turning over ceremony of military equipment valued at US$3 million donated by the Chinese Government at the Barclay Training Center (BTC) in Monrovia Wednesday.
President Sirleaf said the gesture demonstrates “how true China’s relationship with Liberia is”.
“This comes at the time when we are in need of military equipment as most of the trucks and other moving equipment of the Armed Forces of Liberia (AFL) are in a very poor state,” the Liberian leader pointed out.
President Sirleaf said Liberia will forever remain grateful to China for its continuous commitment and support to the West African nation’s reconstruction and economic revitalization drive.
She noted that the donation was an attestation of the level of professionalism being demonstrated by Chief of Staff Brigadier General Daniel Ziankahn and the gallant men and women in arms that has enabled Ambassador ZHANG Yue and other partners to have great confidence in their ability to keep Liberia safe and secure.
The Liberian leader hoped that the new facilities and equipment will enable him and his corps of officers to continue the good work they have been carrying out, especially the rehabilitation of damaged roads across the country, adding, “We are proud of you and we want you to do more.”
President Sirleaf also lauded Defense Minister Brownie Samukai for his leadership role and his ability to negotiate to attract contributions to the AFL.
