Bong Youth Wants Gov’t Intervene In Fuamah Land Conflict
By Philip T. Singbah, LINA Bong County Correspondent

GBARNGA, February 3(LINA)  - One of the Bong County Representatives-elect to the Mano River Union Youth Parliament is calling on the government to swiftly intervene in what could be an emerging land conflict in Fuamah District.

Speaking to the Liberia News Agency in Fuamah Tuesday, Kusee Armstrong said there was a need for the government to urgently intervene in the dispute in Fuamah before it escalates into violence.

Armstrong’s statement follows reports from citizens of Fuamah that one Dolo Barclay was claiming more than 3,000 acres of land in the district.

According to him, residents from more than 50 villages in the district are said to be resisting Barclay’s ownership claim of the land and as such it was important for the government to swiftly intervene to amicably resolve the brewing conflict.

Armstrong told LINA that without prior notice to citizens and residents of the community in which the land is situated, Barclay has taken surveyors to the area to survey the disputed land.

When contacted by LINA via mobile phone on Wednesday, Barclay confirmed that the land belongs to him and promised to make further comment about the disputed parcel of land at the appropriate time.
