Deputy SRSG Wants Justice For Abused Women, Girls
By Wellington G. Patrick, LINA Nimba County Correspondent

SANNIQUELLIE, February 3 (LINA) – An official of the U.N. Mission in Liberia (UNMIL) has appealed to the Liberian Government and the judiciary to ensure that women and girls “violated by cruel men are given justice.”

Deputy Special Representative of the U.N. Secretary General for Rule of Law, Waldemar Vrey, said to stabilize peace in a given nation is to “ensure that the frail components of the society are given justice.”

“We are using this forum to call on the Liberian justice system to sustain the fight against Gender-Based Violence. Perpetrators of crimes in a peaceful nation should not go null of justice, especially when children, women and girls who are the defenseless members of our society are desecrated,” Vrey emphasized.

He made the statement Tuesday when the Government of Liberia with support from UNMIL held a Security Transition Town Hall Meeting at the Tubman Hal in Sanniquellie.

The forum brought together educators, city mayors, local authorities of the province, students, members of the Liberia National Police and security agencies, women leaders, chiefs and elders.
