VP Boakai Commends UNMIL Indian Contingent

MONROVIA, February 2 (LINA) - Vice President Joseph N. Boakai has commended the United Nations Mission in Liberia (UNMIL) for the many sacrifices it has made in sustaining peace and stability in Liberia.

According to press release, Vice President Boakai noted that despite the challenges faced at home by contributing nations, they are proud to serve in other countries for the attainment of international peace and tranquility.

“There can be no higher sacrifice than to leave your country, family and friends and move to another country to serve in the interest of world peace,” the release quoted the Vice President as saying.

Vice President Boakai made the commendation Tuesday when a delegation of the UNMIL Indian Contingent accompanied by the Honorary Consul of the Republic of India to Liberia, Mr. Upjit Singh Sachdeva, paid a courtesy call on him at his
Capitol Building Office.

He described the Indian Contingent as professional and disciplined soldiers and made specific reference to the Female Contingent, adding, “We appreciate them because they brought so much on board.”

VP Boakai emphasized that peace and stability are cardinal requirements for the economic growth of any nation, noting that it was the duty of all nations to be at peace with themselves and with the international community, the release added.

In remarks, Honorary Consul Sachdeva informed the Vice President that the Indian contingent will shortly depart Liberia due to the drawdown schedule of the United Nations Mission in Liberia.
