KRTTI Employees Resist Reinstatement of Director

By Richard Baysah, Margibi County Correspondent

KAKATA, March 4 (LINA) - Employees of the Kakata Rural Teachers Training Institute (KRTTI) have staged another strike action to resist the reinstatement of the Director of the Institute.

The workers maintained that they will continue the strike action until authorities of the Ministry of Education see reason to remove the Director of the institute, Mrs. Precious Brownell-Dennis.

When news began circulating Tuesday morning on KRTTI campus of the director’s reinstatement, the employees went on the rampage and vowed not to return to work until their demands are met.

A spokesperson of the employees, Jallah Sammy, disclosed that at a meeting held at the Education Ministry in Monrovia Monday, Director Dennis apologized to the entire staff of KRTTI and promised to cultivate a more positive working relationship with them.

According to the Liberia News Agency, Sammy said during the meeting, it was also agreed that every staff of the school would begin to benefit from allowances with immediate effect.

The KRTTI director, staff and trainees have been locked in a serious standoff over mistreatment allegedly meted out against them by Mrs. Dennis.

However, during a meeting held on February 25 with the Deputy Education for Administration, Atty. Ramsey Kumbuyah, at the administrative building in Kakata, Mrs. Dennis denied any wrong doing.

She instead said she was ensuring that corruption was minimized at the institution, when she discovered over 61 names of employees of the institution that were receiving “double salaries” for one job.
