Higher Education Body Wants Curriculum Reform
By Calvin Brooks, LINA

MONROVIA, January 20 (LINA) -The Director General of the National Commission on Higher Education (NCHE), Dr. Michael Slawon, has stressed the need for curriculum reform to cope with the changing realities in the higher education sector of Liberia.

Dr. Slawon noted that if Liberia should form part of the global village of knowledge transfer for the betterment of the world, then amending the 1989 Act on Higher Education should be considered.

The NCHE official made the statement Wednesday at a one-day Consultation on the Draft Amendment of the 1998 Act establishing the NCJE organized by the Governance Commission in collaboration with the Ministry of Education held at a local hotel in Monrovia.

He indicated that the higher education sector is engaged in the use of technology to make teaching and learning as well as researching more understandable to easily achieve the desired objectives.

He explained that the world is faced with numerous challenges which, if not addressed, higher education will not make a difference in shifting the behavior of mankind to use education acquired.

Dr. Slawon emphasized that the management and regulation of the higher education sector in Liberia now is changing, compared to 1989 when
five higher education institutions were existing, compared to 34 currently.
