Pres. Sirleaf Starts Official Visit To China

MONROVIA, November 2  (LINA) - President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf on Monday started official activities marking her four-day State visit to the People’s Republic of China.

According to a dispatch, President Sirleaf and delegation arrived Beijing Sunday and left for Xiamen City in Fujian Province for a day’s visit to an agriculture, fishing and juice factory shortly upon arrival in the People’s Republic of China.

According to the dispatch, President Sirleaf was met upon arrival at the Beijing International Airport by high-level Chinese officials headed by Vice Foreign Minister Zhang Ming and Chinese Ambassador to Liberia, Zhang Yue, as well as Liberia’s Ambassador to China, Mr. McKinley Thomas.

Before leaving New Delhi, India, the Liberian leader, on Saturday, October 31, addressed a Special Lecture organized by the Research and Information System for Developing Countries.

She spoke on a wide range of international issues, including the 2030 Global Development Agenda and its 17 Sustainable Development Goals; establishment and history of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) with emphasis on the involvement of the African continent and its leaders; the Group of 77 and the role of Liberia; the foundation and operations of the United Nations; the Africa Rising 2063 Vision and gender issues, among others.

President Sirleaf and delegation were also guests at a special dinner organized and hosted by the Honorary Counsel of Liberia in India and Executive Director of BIRDGROUP, Ankur Bhatia, at one of his hotel complexes in New Delhi, India.

To help expand the service industry, Mr. Ankur intends to explore the possibility of extending his venture to Liberia to help enhance the country’s economic development program and job creation effort.
