Amity University Confers Honorary Doctorate Degree On Pres. Sirleaf

MONROVIA, October 30 (LINA) -Amity University in New Delhi, India has conferred an Honorary Doctorate degree on President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf.

According to a dispatch from Delhi, India, the Honorary Doctor of Philosophy degree was conferred on the Liberian President at a Special Convocation held on the campus of the University by its Chancellor on Thursday, October 29.

At the ceremony, Amity University awarded a number of post-graduate scholarships to Liberia and indicated that the details will be worked out between officials of the two tertiary institutions.

In response, President Sirleaf thanked the University for the honor, which she dedicated to the women of Liberia and Africa.

She reflected on the long-standing relations between Liberia and India and looked forward for more progress.

Amity University is a private research university in India established by an Act of Uttar Pradesh legislature. Amity University, Noida was India's first private university slated to implement reservations based on caste, etc., for both faculty as well as students.

The school was started in 2003 with an enrollment of 120 students. In 2011, it had 80,000 students in 240 programs. It now has more than 125,000 students from all over the world.
