2 Rape Cases On Docket For November Term In Bong
By Philip T. Singbah, LINA Bong County Correspondent

GBARNGA, October 28 (LINA) -The rape of a 16-year-old female student by her instructor and a gang rape case are slated for trial during the November Term of the 9th Judicial Circuit Court in Gbarnga, Bong County.

Police in Gbarnga on October 26 charged Joseph Tokpa with statutory rape for allegedly raping one of his female students in a local motel where he took her under the pretext of taking her to his house for textbooks.

Disclosing this in an interview with the Liberia News Agency Tuesday, Bong County Prosecutor Collinus Wennah said the instructor’s case and a gang rape are the two rape cases on the docket for trial during the November Term.

Many civil society activists in the county, including the Catholic Justice and Peace Commission, Foundation for International Dignity and the public have been calling for speedy prosecution of the rape case involving the student.

Wennah said because the case is above the jurisdiction of the Magisterial Court, it was on Monday, October 26, transferred to the 9th Judicial Circuit Court for trial.

Wennah said despite the overcrowding of the court’s docket, all will be done to hear the two rape cases during the November Term of Court.
