Bushes Engulf Robertsport City

By D. Ignatius Roberts, LINA Grand Cape Mount County Correspondent

ROBERTSPORT, October 226 (LINA) - Robertsport, the capital city of Grand Cape Mount County, is gradually becoming a forest as bushes overwhelm abandoned houses and other properties in some parts of the city.

The situation has prompted Robertsport City Mayor James G. Kiazolu to give a one month ultimatum to landlords to clean their properties or face court action.

Speaking in an interview with the Liberia News Agency at the weekend, Kiazolu said the Uptown, Central Ward, St. John Episcopal Mission, St. Timothy Government Hospital and Gbasalor are some of the areas swallowed by the bushes.

Kiazolu pointed out that his administration will not hesitate to drag violators to court because several warnings have proved fruitless.

According to the Mayor, Ordinance Number One says anyone who violates should be fined L$500 for the first offence, second offence is L$1000 and the third L$1,500 or imprisonment until the full payment is made.

Kiazolu has ordered the eight community chairmen to report any violators in their various communities to his office for immediate action.

He has also ordered the joint security in the city to enforce ordinance number one by arresting violators to serve as deterrence.
