Teachers At Gertrude Yancy Threaten Boycott Over Pay
By David Pamas Seedee, LINA Bomi County Correspondent

TUBMANBURG, October 26 (LINA) - Six teachers of the Gertrude Yancy High School in Klay Town, Klay District in Bomi County are threatening to boycott classes until the payment of their salary arrears.

Making the disclosure in an interview with the Liberia News Agency in Klay at the weekend, Principal George Gbelly said three of the teachers, who are not on the Ministry of Education payroll, are threatening to leave, while the other three who are on the Supplementary Payroll have not received pay for some time now.

Gbelly said as a result of this situation the teachers are having difficulty securing accommodation for their families as landlords are requesting payment of six months’ rent before occupancy.

When contacted, Bomi County Education Officer (CEO), Seo Davis, confirmed the report and noted that authorities of the Ministry of Education are making frantic efforts to ensure that the six teachers, including those from other counties, are placed on the payroll.

He urged the teachers to remain calm and continue their work as the situation will be addressed as soon as possible.
