Bad Roads Holding Agriculture Down In Cape Mount - Greaves
By D. Ignatius Roberts, LINA Grand Cape Mount County Correspondent

ROBERTSPORT, October 26 (LINA) -The Ministry of Agriculture Coordinator in Grand Cape Mount County, Z. Edmond Greaves, has said that the poor condition of farm-to market roads is creating setbacks for farmers in the county.

Greaves noted that deplorable roads are making it difficult for farmers to transport their produce to market and to receive supplies such as seed rice, corn and vegetable seeds from partners.

The Coordinator raised the alarm in the county at the weekend when a delegation from the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) paid a courtesy call on the county leadership.

The delegation was headed by Benedict Seekey, Project Concerned International (PCI) Coordinator for the county.

Greaves expressed regret that this year’s farming season started late due to the delay by donors in supplying farmers with implements.

Meanwhile, Greaves has appealed to authorities of the Central Agricultural Research Institute (CARI) in Bong County to decentralize seed rice distribution to avoid farmers starting their farming season late.

For his part, PCI official Benedict Seekey explained that the delegation was in the county on a fact-finding mission to acquaint itself with the problems affecting the agriculture sector for collective effort aimed at finding an amicable solution.
