Pres. Sirleaf Congratulates Liberian Muslims On Pilgrimage
MONROVIA, October 26 (LINA) - President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf has congratulated Liberian Muslims who recently returned from the annual pilgrimage and called on them to continue to go out and render services to their people, religion and Allah.
She believes that the peace that Liberians enjoy today would not have come without Allah’s intervention and that it is therefore worthy to always seek his intercession while striving for peace and unity.
“We once again congratulate you, and all of those who made this pilgrimage such a wonderful occasion for you. Those who are here joining all of us, we want to say to you how pleased we are that you’ve returned safely and that you can now go about and continue to render service to your mosque, religion and your nation,” the Liberian leader told Muslims.
According to an Executive Mansion release, the Liberian leader made the remarks during a thanksgiving and intercessory prayer service at the Monrovia City Hall on Friday, October 23 following the return of 101 Muslims from the annual pilgrimage to Mecca, Saudi Arabia.
President Sirleaf urged Liberian Muslims to continue to pray for peace and unity and emphasized that they must have the courage to do the right thing and ensure religious tolerance and freedom as Government is determined to bring development to its people and ensure that peace continues to be preserved in the land.
She extended profound gratitude to Liberia’s Ambassador to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Dr. Brahima Diakity Kaba, for demonstrating leadership in concluding arrangements for the trip of this year’s pilgrims to and from Mecca.
“Because after many years we had no representation in Saudi Arabia, today he’s there and he has already demonstrated his performance because as much as the year after Ebola it was difficult, he was able to make those arrangements, and to have you there with the greatest of honor possible. So we want to say how much we appreciate him,” President Sirleaf indicated.
President Sirleaf also applauded the acting chairman of the National Muslim Council of Liberia, Sheikh Omaru Kamara, the Liberia National Hajj Committee and especially Head of Mission, Alhaji Lusinee F. Kamara, Sr., for ensuring that Liberia was part of the annual Islamic ceremony, according to the release.
