Cabinet Takes Several Measures

MONROVIA, October 25 (LINA) -The Cabinet has endorsed the National Investment Commission’s Public-Private Partnership Policy with a suggestion for additional input by the Ministry of Justice.

The cabinet made the endorsement at a meeting held on Wednesday, October 21, according to an Executive Mansion press release.

On promulgating new regulations on missing Liberian ECOWAS biometric passports, the Cabinet mandated the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Justice to conduct independent studies on whether these proposed regulations fully meet international standards and are in line with legal requirements.

The Cabinet also mandated the Ministries of Justice and Foreign Affairs to work with the Ministry of Transport to resolve a few outstanding issues on the Ministry of Transport update on License Plates for Motor Vehicles.

Also following the Civil Service Agency’s update on Contributory Pension Scheme, the cabinet, noting that it’s an area that has long been lacking in our governance structure, suggested that more time was needed to make substantive proposals on the way forward.

On performance updates from the High Level Committee Secretariat on the new Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) adopted by the just-ended 70th Session of the UN General Assembly, the Cabinet endorsed the recommendations to hold a roundtable meeting bringing in all the stakeholders, including the National Legislature, Civil Society, Media, and what role they can play to domesticate the document by determining targets aligned with the country’s Agenda for Transformation.

The Cabinet also suggested that a Secretariat be established to domesticate the document and follow-up with its implementation.

On the initiative to pave 51 kilometers roads in Montserrado County and its environs, the Cabinet also endorsed the initiative, but urged the Ministry of Public Works to work with the Ministry of Finance and Development Planning, Public Procurement and Concessions Commission, and other relevant stakeholders to trash out all the bottlenecks for its smooth implementation beginning this dry season.

Meanwhile, the Cabinet has endorsed the establishment of a Presidential Taskforce on City Beautification that will be chaired by the Director-General of the General Services Agency, Mary Broh.

Other members on the committee are representatives from the Ministries of Internal Affairs, Youth and Sports, Information, Finance and Development Planning and the Liberia National Police.

Other representatives are the mayors of all the cities as well as district commissioners across the country.

They have a one month mandate running from November 15 to December 15, 2015.
