Union Raises Alarm Over Attacks On Buchanan Bike Riders
Johnson Bobby Liway, LINA Grand Bassa County Correspondent

BUCHANAN, October 22 (LINA) -The head of the Motorcyclists Union of Grand Bassa County has raised alarm over the increasing wave of attacks on motorcyclists operating in Buchanan in recent times.

Victor Joe told the Liberia News Agency n a telephone interview recently that there have been constant attacks on motorcyclists by gangs of unknown
individuals, resulting to the wounding of bike riders and theft of their motorbikes.

Joe named areas where bike riders are being attacked as Barconee, Central and Upper Buchanan, Paynesberry, Own Your Own Community and along the Monrovia-Bassa Highway.

He said some of his members have been badly wounded on the head, stabbed in the stomach, severely beaten and left unconscious, forcing them to seek medical treatment at hospitals and clinics in Buchanan and Monrovia.

Joe revealed that as a result of the brutal acts, students in those communities can no longer easily find bikes because no bike rider uses those routes after six p.m.

He is therefore appealing to authorities to help bring this ugly situation to a halt.

When contacted, the Chief Superintendent of the Grand Bassa Detachment of the Liberia National Police, Anthony N. Weah, said the police is aware of the situation and is doing all it can to arrest the perpetrators.

He then advised motorcyclists not to ply the streets after 11 p.m. for their own safety.
