Award Winner Nudges Colleagues To Report On Food Security
By Philip T. Singbah, LINA Bong County Correspondent

GBARNGA, October 19 (LINA) - The Production Manager of Radio Gbarnga, Jefferson Massah, has promised to use his recent international award as a stepping stone to encourage other Liberian journalists to report on food security issues in the country.

Massah recently won the prestigious George Atkins Communications Award from the International Board of Farm Radio based in Ottawa, Canada.

The Award was established in 1991 to recognize radio broadcasters for their outstanding commitment and contributions to food security and poverty reduction in low-income countries.

Speaking to the Liberia News Agency upon his return from a trip to Ghana where he received the award, Massah said he would embark on an initiative to further sharpen the skills of Liberian journalists to help strengthen farmers’ productivity around the country.

He pointed out that a partnership agreement with the International Board of Farm Radio is being formulated to support the establishment of an institution in Liberia to pass on his achievement to other local journalists.

Massah encouraged broadcasters to use their skills in developing agriculture-related radio programs to further motivate farmers and policy makers.
