PUL Plans To Begin Building Headquarters In 2016
By Hilary Vasco Wiagbe, LINA

MONROVIA, October13 (LINA) – The Press Union of Liberia (PUL) will begin construction of the Union’s headquarters early next year, PUL President Abdullai Kamara has disclosed.

He indicated that with or without the yet to be accounted for US$100,000 President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf donated to the project about six years ago, work will kick off in 2016 based on the commitment of the membership.

The president’s donation has been wrapped in controversy over contractual matters, leading to court action involving two past PUL administrations.

In an interview with the Liberia News Agency in Monrovia Monday, Kamara said members of the Union are committed to generating money on their own to ensure that the headquarters construction project gets underway.

An estimated US$100,000 is required to build the headquarters, according to the PUL President. He put the current size of the union’s membership at about 500.

He expressed optimism that outsiders would see the need to assist the PUL in the implementation of the project if its membership demonstrates seriousness and jumpstart the project.

Since the establishment of the PUL in 1964, it has not been able to build its own headquarters.

It can be recalled that the PUL during the administration of Abraham Massaley in the 1990s purchased one lot of land in the Sinkor Community for the  construction of its headquarters.
