BUCHANAN, October 12 (LINA) - Residents of Zondo Town in Gianda District, Grand Bassa County will no longer have to travel to Buchanan and other nearby towns to seek medical treatment, as a modern clinic has been dedicated in the town.
Grand Bassa County Assistant Superintendent for Development Adonie Z. Greaves, who officially dedicated the 13-room clinic on behalf of the county authorities at the weekend, put the cost of the facility at US$122,000.
According to Greaves, funding for the project was sourced from the county’s Social Development Fund during the 2010 County Development Council Sitting.
He pointed out that construction work on the clinic, which was begun in 2012 by a local construction firm operating in Grand Bassa County, came to a standstill due to the Ebola outbreak.
Meanwhile, Greaves has thanked AmeriCares, an international non-governmental organization, for providing over US$15,000 to furnish the clinic and donating equipment and drugs worth over US$40,000.
In remarks at the ceremony, AmeriCares Grand Bassa Program Manager Serawit Kassa thanked citizens of the town for their support during the process, and assured officials of his institution’s commitment to provide healthcare services to other parts of the county.
The clinic contains a nursing station, labor, laboratory, delivery, dispensary, record, consultation and bathrooms, and a pharmacy.
