Garwula DEO Wants 15 Teachers On GoL Payroll
By D. Ignatius Roberts, LINA Grand Cape Mount County Correspondent

ROBERTSPORT, October 12 (LINA) –The District Education Officer (DEO) of Garwula District in Grand Cape Mount County, Mambu Golafale, is appealing to the Ministry of Education to place on its payroll 15 teachers assigned to the district.

Golafale said the teachers are recent graduates of the Kakata Rural Teachers Training Institute (KRTTI) in Margibi County and the Zorzor Rural Teachers Training Institute (ZRTTI) in Lofa County.

Making the appeal in an interview with the Liberia News Agency (LINA) in Robertsport on Sunday, the Garwula DEO said the delay in placing the teachers on payroll will frighten other qualified teachers from taking up assignment in rural areas.

“I am afraid that if nothing is done to urgently address the situation it could lead to abandonment of the classroom by the aggrieved teachers or encourage corruption,” Golafale warned.

The district school system currently has 39 schools, seven of which are private-run, with a total enrolment of 6,000 students and 149 teachers.
