By D. Ignatius Roberts, Grand Cape Mount County Correspondent
ROBERTSPORT, October 8 (LINA)-The Inspector of Grand Cape Mount County, Eric Pinney, has called for the relocation of the Robertsport Prison to its former site in the Uptown Community to prevent the escape of inmates.
Pinney made the call at the County Coordination Structure Meeting in Robertsport recently. During the meeting authorities of the prison reported that there is no safe drinking water at the prison compound.
According to the authorities, prison officers and inmates travel up to 45 minutes to remote places to fetch water.
The report stated that inmates sometimes take advantage of the situation to escape from prison guards who are unarmed, and cited the escape of four prison inmates about two years ago.
Pinney informed officials at the meeting that the former site has a hand pump from which inmates fetched water, adding that relocating the prison there will prevent them from escaping.
Meanwhile, the County Inspector, Eric Pinney, is calling on the government and the international community to construct a hand pump at the current prison to avoid prisoners travelling long distances in search of water that may result to their escape.
