ZWEDRU, March 1 (LINA) - The first quarterly assembly of the Liberian National Bar Association (LNBA) in 2014 officially opened at the Zwedru City Hall in Grand Gedeh County Friday, under the theme 'Adherence to the Rule of Law'.

In his welcome statement, Grand Gedeh County Superintendent Peter L. Solo described the occasion as the first since the county was created in 1964.

"This occasion is very historic and timely as the nation straightens hurdles in the way of social justice," Superintendent Solo said.

Briefly reflecting on  the Joint Council  of  Chiefs  and  Elders Meeting held last October at the same venue, Superintendent Solo said the nation is making progress in its quest for peace and good neighborliness, where the rule of law is paramount.

The assembly chaired by the Association's National President, Counselor Theophilus Gould, brought together legal practitioners from around the country, as well as officials of government.

Past and present leaders of the association were recognized for their outstanding contributions and efforts in bringing the LNBA to where it is today.

Also making remarks were the head of the field office of UNMIL Civil Affairs, Tom Mtaisa, who emphasized the importance the UN attaches to the rule of law.

Also speaking was the National Traditional Council Grand Gedeh branch Secretary General Peter Garwo, who brought greetings from the local council, among others.

The assembly is attended by lawyers from local bars from across the 15 counties of Liberia.

Meanwhile, officials of the local bar of the LNBA Grand Gedeh Branch were Friday inducted into office by the association's national president, Counselor Theophilus Gould.

The ceremony was held in the ballroom of the Zwedru City Hall in the presence of LNBA members from across Liberia.

Those inducted were Counselor David G. Gbala, chairman, Attorney Alphonso Zeon, vice chairman, Attorney Nyonkpao Daye, secretary and Attorney Kanio Bai Gbala, treasurer.
