President Sirleaf, “My Trip Was Fruitful, Rewarding”

MONROVIA, October 7 (LINA) – President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf who Tuesday returned to the country from New York, U.S.A., where she attended the 70th Session of the UN General Assembly and Germany where she attended the Conference on Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment, has described her trip as fruitful and rewarding.

President Sirleaf told journalists at a press stakeout at the Roberts International Airport (RIA) in Margibi County Tuesday upon her arrival that as one of the three members of the High Level Panel of the New Global Agenda on Sustainable Development Goals, they were able to bring the SDGs to an end with the adoption of Agenda 2030.

The Liberian leader said during her official trips to U.S.A and Germany, she met with some bilateral partners, including officials of the Norwegian Government who agreed to donate US$ 40 million towards the refurbishing of the Mount Coffee Hydro Power Plant.

She also disclosed that Finance and Development Planning Minister Amara Konneh on behalf of the Liberian Government, signed an agreement with the United States Government valued at US$ 250 million to assist with the building of the Mount Coffee Hydro Power Plant.

President Sirleaf explained to journalists that she also visited the Center for Infectious Disease Research in the United States where she spoke and held discussions with philanthropists of the world to assist Liberia build a resilient health system.

The Center for Infectious Disease Research is the largest independent, non-profit organization in the U.S. which focuses solely on infectious disease research.
