Supt. Jah Assures Govt’s Preparedness To Take Over Security
By John N. Bropleh, LINA Maryland, Grand Kru Counties Correspondent
HARPER, October 6 (LINA) – The Superintendent of River Gee County, Philip Jah, has assured government’s preparedness to take over the security of the country following the drawdown of UNMIL in September 2016.
Superintendent Jah noted that the government has always been aware that the UN Mission would one day be over for the country to take over its own security and as such, the government cannot and will not shy away from its responsibilities.
The River Gee Superintendent gave the assurance in Harper recently at an awareness meeting with the Special Representative of the UN General (SRSG) Farrid Zarrif when he paid an official visit to the county.
In remarks during the meeting, SRSG Zarrif said UNMIL will not abandon Liberia even after the withdrawal of its mission from the country. Jah pointed out that the government has long prepared for the drawdown exercise and as such there was no need for citizens to panic.
Meanwhile, the UN Special Representative has assured the various security apparatuses in the region of government’s commitment to provide them capacity building and logistical supports to help enhance their performance.
