By Wellington G. Patrick, LINA Nimba County Correspondent

GBOI YELLA, October 6 (LINA) - At least 11 houses have been destroyed by heavy rainstorm in Gboi Yella Town, Yarmein Administrative District
in Nimba County.

In an interview with the Liberia News Agency (LINA) in the district Monday, the Town Chief of Gboi Yella, Nyah Menawon, said the incident which took place Saturday evening, left about 80 families homeless and several properties damaged.

According to Chief Menawon, most of the victims are currently seeking refuge in the homes of family members in surrounding towns and villages in Gboi Yella.

Menawon noted that though there were no major casualties, few persons sustained minor injuries and that the victims are being attended to by herbalists.

Meanwhile, a youth leader of the town, Nyah Buah is appealing to local authorities, the County Disaster Management Committee as well as local and international partners to provide the victims temporary shelter and household utensils.

Nimba County has over the recent years been constantly hit by rainstorm resulting in the destruction of farmlands, villages and towns.

This year, several rainstorms, floods and landslides have hit Yekepa and its environs, breaking down houses and removing bridges and cover farmlands.
