By Wellington G. Patrick, LINA Nimba County Correspondent
SANNIQUELLIE, October 6 (LINA) - The Food & Agriculture Organization (FAO) has pledged to donate two rice milling machines to women farmers’ unions in Nimba County as part of its partnership deal with the Agriculture Relief Services (ARS).
FAO, in partnership with the ARS is implementing a Post-Ebola Recovery program focusing on getting women actively involved in farming activities, building their capacities and revamping farmlands as Ebola has badly broken down farming operations in the county. The pilot project which is sponsoring 25 women agriculture organizations, is cultivating 51.1 acres of lowland in Sanniquellie Mah and Gbehlay Geh Districts.
The Program Manager of FAO, Samuel Peter, told LINA in Sanniquellie recently that the equipment will be donated to any two of the women groups that will produce the highest quantity of rice this farming season as yields are expected in November and December this year.
The Executive Director of ARS, Luogon P. Lah, put the cost of the project at a little over US$40,000.
