VP Boakai Assures Nigeria Of Renewed Bilateral Opportunities

 By Wilfred Gortor

MONROVIA, October 5 (LINA) –Vice President Joseph N. Boakai has assured that Liberia stands ready to cultivate new opportunities that would enhance the wellbeing of the peoples of Nigeria and Liberia.

Vice President Boikai observed that the cooperation and friendship between the two countries have always been characterized by mutual respect and collaboration at diverse levels.

The Vice President’s statement was contained in a speech he delivered recently at the occasion marking the 55th Independence Anniversary of the Federal Republic of Nigeria held in Monrovia.

Vice President Boakai noted that Nigeria’s 55th Independence Anniversary presents an opportunity for reflection which would subsequently allow the two nations to anticipate a favorable and great future in their bilateral relations.

“Following many years of close ties and cooperation, Liberia and Nigeria have traversed time and space even in very difficult times leading to tremendous mutual benefits to our two countries,” Boikai emphasized.

Relative to the tremendous assistance provided to Liberia by the Government of Nigeria, the Liberian Vice President noted that even as Nigeria grapples with the onslaught of terrorism, the Government of Nigeria continues to provide huge support to Liberia in a wide range of areas.

He named security, education, health, transportation amongst others, as key areas in which the Government of Nigeria over the years provided support to enhance the development initiatives of the Government of Liberia.

Vice President Boikai hoped that the people of Nigeria will continue to receive God’s blessings of peace, political cohesion and sustainable economic growth as well as accrue development and prosperity.

Known as the “Giant of Africa,” Nigeria gained its independence from the United Kingdom as a Commonwealth Realm on October 1, 1960.

With a little over 182 million population Nigeria is the 12th largest producer of petroleum in the world and the 8th largest exporter, and has the 10th largest proven oil reserves in the world.
