GBARNGA, September 29 (LINA) – Agriculture Minister Dr. Moses Zinnah has said the Government of Liberia considers the agriculture sector “a major tool” in achieving the Agenda for Transformation (AfT).
Speaking at the official reopening of the Chinese Agriculture Demonstration Center- Lonpeng-Tech in Suakoko District Tuesday, Minister Zinnah said the government will continue to support the sector to ensure food security in the country, which is one of the pillars of the AfT.
He noted that the government is committed to supporting the Chinese team at the Center to broaden the horizons of agricultural research in the country to improve the sector.
In 2008, a group of Chinese Agriculture Technicians constructed the Agriculture Demonstration Center “Lonpeng-Tech” at the Central Agricultural Research Institute (CARI) to help improve the agriculture sector.
The Center, which started operations in 2011, abruptly shut down its operations in 2014 due to the outbreak of the Ebola virus in the country.
Now that Liberia has been declared Ebola-free, the Center has reopened as a team of Chinese agriculture experts are currently cultivating about 400 acres of low and upland rice, vegetables and other crops to support the center’s research initiative.
