Senator Kaipay Urges Autonomy For Tourism Department At MICAT
By Robert Dixon, LINA

MONROVIA, September 29 (LINA) - Grand Bassa County Senator Jonathan Kaipay has called for the Tourism Department at the Ministry of Information to be granted autonomy to make it “very active and more functional.”

Kaipay made the call Monday in an interview with the Liberia News Agency at the program marking the 36th anniversary of the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNTO) held in Buchanan, Grand Bassa County.

He expressed optimism that an autonomous Tourism Department will help to generate more revenue for Liberia, like in other countries.

Meanwhile, the Grand Bassa Senator has observed that the lack of road connectivity throughout the country is impeding the growth and productivity of Liberia’s tourism industry.

He observed that Liberia has rich potential tourist destinations from which the country can generate millions of dollars, if there were good road networks.

Kaipay emphasized that tourism allows wealth to be injected into a country’s economy in a variety of ways, such as providing employment opportunities for its citizens.
