Students Abandon Classes For Gold Mines, Principal Alarms
By John. N. Bropleh, Maryland County Correspondent

HARPER, Sept 23- The Principal of Glofaken Central High School in Barrobo Statutory District in Maryland County has alarmed that the gradual reduction in the student population was hindering the learning process at the school.

Mr. J. Korbee Goffah told LINA in Glofaken, Barrobo District at the weekend that students at the school were abandoning classes for gold mines, thereby rendering the existence of the institution irrelevant.

Mr. Goffah who appeared to be in a desperate mood, disclosed that the school which had a student population of 300, currently boasts of only 150 students.

He called on parents to persuade their children to return to school, if Barrobo is to have a promising future.

The Glofaken Central High School principal who vowed to support government’s Educational Reform program, then admonished students to take advantage of the program to prepare themselves to serve their people in the future.

In a related development, Mr. Jeremiah Tweh Jr., a prominent Barrobo citizen residing in Monrovia, has offered to construct a building to host elementary section of the Glofaken Central High Scool in Barrobo Statutory District shortly.

He made the promise at the weekend during the 34th Anniversary Celebration of the District.

He said this is intended to separate the high school section from the elementary school in the same building to ensure more sealing capacity.
