GBARNGA, Feb 28 (LINA) –The Department of Tourism at the Ministry of Information, Cultural Affairs and Tourism (MICAT) and the Liberia News Agency have completed a tour of major touristic sites in southeastern and central Liberia
The tour, which took the team to Maryland, Grand Kru, River Gee, Grand Gedeh, Nimba and Bong Counties, was intended to identify and gather data on sites that the Ministry would showcase as attractions for ecotourism.
At a meeting with Bong County Superintendent Selena Polson-Mappy, the Director of Tourism, Mr. Ambrose Wiagbe, described Bong County as one of the nerve centers of Liberia’s Tourism and Eco-Tourism industry.
He said the multiplicity of natural attractions such as the Kpatawee Water Falls, the proliferation of accommodations, hotels and guest houses and restaurants, are among many other features that have touristic attraction and are also providing job opportunities for citizens in the county.
“Unless tourists are informed of what you have, they will not explore them,” concluded Mr. Wiagbe.
Responding, Superintendent Polson-Mappy welcomed the team and lauded their initiative, which she said would create jobs and bring revenue to the county and national government.
