VP Foh, VP Boakai Renew Commitment to Work For Regional Peace, Security and Health

MONROVIA, September 23 (LINA)- Vice Presidents Joseph N. Boakai of Liberia and Victor B. Foh of Sierra Leone have reaffirmed their respective Governments’ commitment to continue working together for the development of the Mano River Union Basin.

The Mano River Union which groups together Liberia, Sierra Leone, Guinea and Cote d’Ivoire, is endowed with natural resources and opportunities that could improve the standards of living for its peoples.

According to a press release from the office of Vice President Boakai, the two Vice Presidents noted that both the people of Sierra Leone and Liberia can be assured of continuous brotherly cooperation and collaboration between their two countries for the enhancement of peace and security and to move the bilateral ties subsisting between the two sisterly states to another level.

Vice Presidents Boakai and Foh gave the assurance in separate remarks during a courtesy visit the Vice President of Sierra Leone paid on Vice President Boakai at his office on Capitol Hill Wednesday.

During the meeting, the two Vice Presidents recounted the cordial historical ties between their two countries.

In welcome remarks, Vice President Boakai said both Liberia and Sierra Leone have the same cultural values, common borders with the same languages.

He noted that the two nations experienced bitter civil wars and most recently the Ebola crisis that shook the very foundations of the health systems of both countries. He indicated that whatever affects Liberia affects Sierra Leone and vice versa, saying the two nations are properly connected.

For his part, Vice President Victor Foh who is leading a twelve-man delegation to Liberia, said he and his delegation were glad to be in Liberia and recounted the long-standing relationship between the two countries and his personal acquaintance with Vice President Boakai over many years.

Vice President Foh praised President Sirleaf for her outstanding role as Africa’s first female President and conveyed to the Government and people of Liberia President Ernest Bai Kromah’s heartfelt greetings.

The distinction of Doctor of Humane Letters “Honoris Causa” will be conferred on Vice President Foh at the 54th Commencement Convocation of Cuttington University on Saturday, September 26.

Vice President Foh will also serve as Guest Speaker at this year's Commencement Convocation of the Cutting University in Suakako, Bong County, according to the release.
