Twenty Journalists Trained In HIV & AIDS Reporting In Bassa
By Johnson Bobby Liway, LINA Grand Bassa County Correspondent

BUCHANAN, September 24 (LINA) – More than 20 journalists from various media organizations in Grand Bassa County have been trained in
HIV/AIDS reporting at a two-day training workshop organized by the Lutheran Church in Liberia HIV/AIDS Program Department in Buchanan.

The journalists were also trained in how to report issues of sexual gender-based violence and its prevention.

Topics covered at the workshop include stigmatization and discrimination, sex and gender, gender and sex analysis, types of
gender based violence GBV and sexual and gender based violence SGBV and its causes, behavior change, self-reflection, amongst others.

In remarks at the close of the workshop in Buchanan Wednesday, LCL Chief Facilitator and Training Officer James Z. Sloan said it is
important to train journalists because they encounter females on a daily basis who are always willing to tell them their stories.

Sloan urged the journalists to use the new method of acquiring and accessing information about HIV & AIDs without hindrance.

He named some of the factors that are fueling the spread of the disease as economic instability, poverty, cultural, political and
social barriers.
