Bong EVD Survivors' Network Lauds UNICEF, HHL For Financial Support
By Philip T. Singbah, LINA Bong County Correspondent

GBARNGA, September 24 (LINA) - The Bong County Ebola Survivors’ Network  (BCEN) is commending the United Nations Children’s Fund
(UNICEF) and Helping Hand Liberia (HHL) for providing them monthly stipends.

Helping Hand Foundation is a non-governmental organization implementing the project for UNICEF.

The President of the Network, Norwah Yarkpawolo, told the Liberia News Agency in Gbarnga Wednesday that the institution is grateful to UNICEF
and Helping Hand Liberia for providing its members a monthly stipend of US$ 150; noting “It is greatly helping us to sustain ourselves.”

“Some of us are using the money to make small businesses such as the sale of used clothes, slippers, rice, palm oil, and other food stuffs, amongst others, to sustain ourselves and our children and to support them in school,” Ms. Yarkpawolo noted.

She described the intervention of UNICEF as a milestone in the lives of Ebola survivors, and called on the institution to include in the
project a livelihood component that will train survivors in various life skills such as cosmetology, pastry, tailoring, carpentry, masonry
and plumbing.

Speaking at a recent payment exercise in Gbarnga, Helping Hand Liberia Executive Director Saye Lekpeyee Tiah said since the launch of the
cash program in March this year, it has benefited about 400 Ebola survivors in Bong, Lofa and Margibi Counties.

The Bong County Ebola Network comprises about 74 Ebola Survivors.
