GoL Makes Headways In Implementing TRC Report – Pres. Sirleaf
By Hilary Vasco Wiagbe, LINA

MONROVIA, September 22 (LINA) -President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf has observed that Government has worked assiduously and recorded notable achievements in implementing the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) recommendations.

She said these include building a new political culture of tolerance, integrity, accountability and respect for the rights of all persons.

According to President Sirleaf, government has promoted tolerance at all levels, set up systems and institutions of integrity and accountability, and has observed and respected the fundamental human rights of all of its citizens and those within the borders of Liberia.

The President’s assertion was contained in a “Comprehensive Progress Report on the Implementation of the Recommendations of the June 30, 2009 Final Report of TRC she submitted to the National Legislature on September 15, 2015. It was
read in Session on Tuesday.

“Moreover, Government continues to work to strengthen the rule of law. The Justice and Security Joint Program being implemented with support from the United Nations Peace Building Fund (UNPBF), and other bilateral partners, and with funding from our Government, is a clear manifestation,” she stated.

Expanding on Government’s achievements regarding the TRC recommendations, President Sirleaf pointed out that Government adopted the program, “Strengthening the Rule of Law” as one of its three key peace-building priorities.
