Liberian Journalist Wins Prestigious Int’l Award

GBARNGA, September 18 (LINA) -A Liberian journalist has been named the winner of the 2015 George Atkins Communications Award in Ottawa, Canada.

Jefferson Massah, Head of Programs of Radio Gbarnga in Bong County was on September 11, 2015 named by the International Board of Farm Radio International (FRI) in Ottawa as winner of the prestigious award.

The award, named after Dr. George S. Atkins, Founder and Director of FRI, was established in 1991 to give recognition to rural broadcasters for their outstanding commitment and contribution to food security and poverty reduction in low income countries.

The award is presented each year to an individual who demonstrates overall programming excellence in responding to small-scale farmers’ needs as well as commitment to Farm Radio International.

Massah is expected to travel to Accra, Ghana early next month to formally receive his award at Farm Radio Regional Office for West Africa.
