Supt. Brown Hails Sirleaf’s Vulnerable Households, Ebola Programs

TUBMANBURG, September 11 (LINA) - Bomi County Superintendent Samuel Brown has lauded President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf for her economic empowerment program for vulnerable households and Ebola survivors in the country.

Supt. Brown said the establishment of the Social Cash Transfer (SCT) by the Sirleaf-led Government in 2011 is key to the survival of vulnerable households, including Ebola survivors across the country.

He made the statement at the county’s SCT Consultative Meeting in Tubmanburg recently, noting that the program has brought relief to needy and vulnerable families as well as those who were affected by the Ebola outbreak across the country.

He said the SCT has gained prominence as a way of mitigating the impact of the Ebola epidemic on loss of household incomes and decline of livelihoods.

Brown indicated that the SCT Program is intended reduce poverty from the stipulated 64 percent to 48 percent below the extreme poverty line in order to rebuild and protect livelihoods and strengthen household resilience against future shocks.
