"I only Ascend, Not Descend,” Senator Johnson Responds To Rumors
By Wellington G. Patrick, LINA Nimba County Correspondent

SANNIQUELLIE, September 11 (LINA) - Senator Prince Johnson of Nimba County has termed as “a lie,” rumors circulating in Nimba County that he has agreed to serve as vice presidential running-mate to Vice President Joseph Boakai on the Unity Party ticket in the 2017 general elections.

Senator Johnson told reporters recently that Nimba has a large population and that with the massive support of his people, he is sure of being elected president and not vice president as has been speculated across the county.

The Nimba County Senior Senator said his political prestige will retrogress if he contests as vice standard bearer in the 2017 polls, noting that “I can only ascend and not descend,” an apparent reference that he has contested the presidency before and came third.

He, however, appreciated the leadership of President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf for maintaining peace in the country; adding “With peace, we are able to build more schools for our students to achieve the quality education they desire.”

Since his pronouncement on the issue, Senator Johnson is yet to receive an opposing view from his political opponents and other citizens.

In an interview with the Liberia News Agency following Johnson’s statement, a high school instructor at the Sanniquellie Central High School, Emmanuel Nuahn, lauded him for the position taken, and described the Senator as “an experienced politician.”
