ZAVTP Director Wants Training Of More Middle-Level Technicians

ZWEDRU, September 7 (LINA) -The Zwedru Accelerated Vocational Training Program (ZAVTP) Coordinator Gabriel S. Janneh has underscored the need to train more middle-level technicians to meet national needs.

In an interview with the Liberia News Agency in Zwedru recently, Janneh said unless upgrading the capacity of middle-level technicians is given the needed attention, building a modern Liberia “will be a mere dream as the country depends on expatriates in the engineering sector.”

ZAVTP official said the institution needs 12 additional instructors at the start of this new cycle, as the names of those who were teaching at the center were deleted for receiving checks, and that all efforts to put them on special allowance has fallen on deaf ears.

The Zwedru Accelerated Vocational Training Program was established in1973 under the administration of President William R. Tolbert Jr. and was later extended to the Zwedru Multilateral High School (ZMHS) in 1979.

It provides training in eight disciplines, including Building Construction, Electricity, Auto Mechanics and Woodworks, among others.

About 185 trainees who could not complete internship at various entities around the country due to the Ebola outbreak will be graduating in January 2016 as registration for this academic year continues.
