Liberia, Sierra Leone To Monitor 74 Illegal Border Points

By D. Ignatius Robert, Grand Cape Mount County Correspondent

ROBERTSPORT, September 7 (LINA) -Liberia and Sierra Leone have agreed to jointly monitor 74 illegal crossing points in Grand Cape Mount County to buttress security between the two Mano River Union (MRU) countries.

The two reached the decision during a cross-border community policing meeting in Sinje, Grand Cape Mount County recently, the Chairman of the Community Watch Forum of Liberia (CWFL) Grand Cape Mount County branch, Abraham Balo, told the Liberia News Agency.

The CWFL local official said only five of the 74 crossing points in the county are legal checkpoints located in Bo-Waterside, York Island, Bassalamu, Manor River Condo and Vantvantma.

Balo pointed out that the meeting will encourage both Liberia and Sierra Leone policing forums and buttress security efforts at the illegal crossing points.

He said due to the shortage of security officers in the county, CWFL members are patrolling towns and villages near the Mano River borders to avoid illegal crossover to Liberia.
