Education Stakeholders In Harper Stress Improved Incentives
By John N. Bropleh, LINA Maryland County Correspondent

HARPER, September 3 (LINA) – Education stakeholders attending a training workshop in Harper, Maryland County are calling on government to provide housing and other incentives to encourage qualified teachers take up assignment in the counties.

They also named improved salaries for teachers, County and District Education Officers (CEOs/DEOs) and other education staff as well as the provision of instructional materials, as key to the improvement of the education system.

The participants made the call in Harper Wednesday during the ‘discussion session’ of the workshop organized by the Ministry of Education.

They expressed willingness to impart quality knowledge but noted that this can only be done when the government adequately caters to the basic needs of teachers, DEOs and CEOs, amongst others.

The Ministry of Education, with support from U.N. Children’s Fund (UNICEF), is carrying out a six-day ‘Training of Trainers’ workshop for 22 education staff in Harper to build their pedagogical and other skills for the 2015/2016 academic year.
