Health Ministry To Employ 4,000 Workers By 2016
By Decontee M Wesseh, LINA

MONROVIA, September 3 (LINA) –The Ministry of Health will employ a total of 4,000 healthcare workers nationwide by 2016, the Minister of Health, Dr. Bernice Dahn, has disclosed.

Addressing the Ministry of Information press briefing at the Ministry of Health Thursday, Minister Dahn said 50 percent of this number will be employed this year, while the remaining 50 percent will be recruited in 2016.

She revealed that an inter-ministerial team, comprising the Ministry of Health, Civil Service Agency and Ministry of Finance, has been working and will continue to work up to December to ensure employment of the first 50 percent.

“The health workforce is the core of the healthcare system of this country,” Dahn noted, adding that most of the healthcare workers are not considered civil servants because they are not on payroll.

She said one of the reasons why the healthcare workers should be employed is because during the Ebola outbreak they ensured that Liberia was safe from the disease.
